Hops, Stock and Barrel is proud to partner with Bendigo Health Foundation, launching a trial pasture-raised egg subscription that gives back to the wider Bendigo community. Every dozen is collected fresh from our farm, and $1 per dozen sold through our subscription pick up locations goes directly to Bendigo Health Foundation's Cancer Wellness Program. Checked against the major supermarkets' Bendigo pricing and online ranges, a dozen eggs currently costs:
Barn-laid between $5.70–$6.90.
Free-range between $6.20–$9.75.
Organic/pasture-raised between $8.50–$15.70 — and genuinely hard to find; Bendigo's major supermarkets had no pasture-raised eggs in stock at all when we checked!
At $8 a dozen, we land right in the middle of standard Bendigo supermarket free-range pricing — while our hens have 60 times more space than the free-range legal maximum, and pasture-raised eggs are barely stocked locally at any price.
Where and when
12 Pegleg Road, Eaglehawk — Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays 2–6pm, or Saturdays 8am–1pm. Pull in any time in those windows — no need to call ahead.
This is a farm-gate collection point, so please stick to the hours above. This is our main pickup and logistics hub.
We are also growing a network of community pickup points and volunteer-hosted drop-offs — see below if you'd like to help bring pasture-raised eggs closer to your street, office or club.
All eggs at this location are available by subscription only. Subscribe by midday Monday and your first order will be ready for pickup from the following Tuesday — choose from Half Dozen, 1 Dozen, or 2 Dozen per week below.
Not just "free-range." Actually pasture-raised.
Every carton of supermarket "free-range" eggs is produced under the same legal ceiling: up to 10,000 hens per hectare — one hen per square metre. That's the maximum allowed under Australia's national Free Range Egg Labelling standard.
Independent groups like CHOICE and the RSPCA say genuine free-range should mean no more than 1,500 hens per hectare, based on the CSIRO's Model Code of Practice.
Our hens run at roughly 165 birds per hectare — about 9 times below the CSIRO benchmark, and 60 times below the legal maximum most supermarket "free-range" eggs are produced under.

We've partnered with Bendigo Health as our marketing and outreach partner, helping us reach more of the Bendigo community with pasture-raised eggs while giving back. $1 per dozen sold through our subscription pick up locations goes straight toward Bendigo Health's Cancer Wellness Program, run through the Gobbé Wellness Centre for local cancer patients and their families.
"Bendigo Health offers a specialised Cancer Wellness Program at the Gobbé Wellness Centre, a dedicated place for patients to participate in wellness activities. We rely on on-going fundraising and donations in excess of $200,000 annually to ensure the sustainability of Bendigo Health's Cancer Wellness Program and the Gobbé Wellness Centre." — Bendigo Health Foundation
